PUBLICATION IN THE AREA OF STEM CELL BASED TECHNOLOGIES

21.05.18

Gene Editing and Cell Fate Reprogramming Researchers from the Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin, described how the mitochondria have been implicated in the processes of acquisition and loss of stemness, with a specific focus on pluripotency and energy metabolism of the pluripotent stem cells. The described information provides the latest knowledge on the role of mitochondria in homeostasis and stem cell differentiation, which is crucial for stem cell based technologies including the precise disease modeling and personalized therapies based on transplantation of genetically corrected patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Researchers have published their work in the prestigious EMBO Reports journal.

Lisowski P., Kannan P., Mlody B., Prigione A. Mitochondria and the dynamic control of stem cell homeostasis. EMBO Rep. 2018 May;19(5). pii: e45432. doi: 10.15252/embr.201745432

Publication is effect of international cooperation of associate professor Paweł Lisowski (IGAB PAS) with German institution - Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin,  in the frame of HARMONIA project “Study of genetic predisposition for rare neurodevelopmental diseases: Integration of genomic, transcriptome and methylome analyzes with modeling using genomic engineering techniques of induced pluripotent human stem cells differentiated into functional neurons”, project manager: associate professor Paweł Lisowski, 1 474 850 PLN.
